custom patio covers, servicing Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Fernley, and surrounding areas with awnings, pergola, trellis, patio covers, and shade structures

My Blog - Patio Covers -The Covered Life

Welcome to the covered life. I’m Will Weber, and shade is my game. I live in Reno where the weather comes at the extremes all year round. The weather here inspired me to find a way to provide cool, beautiful shade to Reno.  My company, Forever Awnings, designs and builds custom patio covers that provide top quality shade and the structures are built for beauty and strength that can withstand whatever the harsh Reno climate can throw at them. You can find more information at the Forever Awnings web site, or you can contact me with any questions. I kicked off this blog to write about shade and the Reno life.

Patio Covers

Are all patio covers created equal?  The answer is an astounding NO, they are not.  There are various levels in the Aluminum patio cover market, and in the Vinyl patio cover market.  Forever Awnings uses high strength and high quality Aluminum products.  In the Reno area, the base snow load is 30pg and as you climb in elevation so does the snow load.  The aluminum covers start at 10lbf up to 90lbf and Forever Awnings patio covers are custom designed for your location.  Does anyone remember the large snow storm a few years back when carports and other...

Summer is Coming

Well, it is that time of year with crazy temperature swings and wild storms.  It soon will change to mostly sun, sun, and more sun.  Sometimes, we forget that Reno gets around 300 days a year of sun.  Protect yourself and your sun exposed side of the house with a pergola.  A Forever Awnings shade structure can help cool a room by 10 degrees in the summer months.

This year the Blue Angels are back to perform in Reno Air Races since early 2000’s.  What an incredible show.  The races are amazing and being able to get up close and personal with the pilots and crews in the pits is quite an adventure.  See the podcast for a look at the Blue Angels and the results for Saturday’s racing.

Spring is Blooming

I was out visiting a perspective client recently, and stopped to smell the flowers.  The weather was around 80 degrees and sunny, approaching a record for the day, a taste of what spring will bring.  Sunshine, flowers blooming, enjoying the warm breeze, and yes looking for a shady spot.

Time for wind farms in Reno?

Time for wind farms in Reno?

Strong winds blew into town on Tuesday -- and blow hard they will this time of year here in Reno.  The highest gust recorded at 55 mph didn’t hold a candle though to the record back in 2002 when the National Weather Service recorded a gust at 82 mph.   It makes me wonder if I shouldn’t take a closer look at starting a wind “farm” here with all this talk of going green in the news.  Whatever the wind, Forever Awnings customers can always rest easy knowing that our trellises are designed to withstand wind gusts over 100 mph. Welcome spring!

What a Show!

What a Show!

After the show,  I went to dinner at PF Chang’s China Bistro, the food was awesome, and they have a steel cover over the outside patio area.  A cover is a necessary item during the upcoming hot summer days. This weekend was bustling with patrons, and I had a number of people signing up for the $500 off installation of cover drawing.  The winner will be drawn later today, and I have added a $250 off, and $100 off installation of cover as well.  I will not publish the names here, for privacy, and will be contacting the winners tomorrow.  Thanks for...

Springtime in Reno

Springtime in Reno

The fine weather here in Reno for St. Patrick’s Day brought out the Irish (and anyone looking for an excuse to wear green) in full force. I had a great dinner at Rapscallion’s seafood house and bar, and the food was fantastic.  The atmosphere is relaxed and elegant with reasonable pricing.  The restaurant is in an area were there are a few Irish pubs: Corrigan’s, Lucke’s, Foley’s, and Ceol to name a few.  It was a sea of green with all the patrons, and yes the beer was a shade of green too.  A sneak preview to summer and a pleasant reminder that the...

Wine, Wood, & Wind

Wine, Wood, & Wind

I saw the dark side of wooden trellises today. I am visiting my sister and her family in San Jose for the weekend.  On a windy gray afternoon, we went to Byington Winery up in the Santa Cruz mountains where we like to play bocci ball on their one and only outside court (if you pass this way I recommend you stop in for a glass or two and a game).  While my brother-in-law was clobbering me at bocci ball, I noticed that the gray and weatherworn court-side wooden trellis was fading away – its better days are definitely well behind it. Okay, the weather-worn...

Love to Golf

I went golfing with a couple of buddies at D’Andrea Golf Club in Sparks, NV.  Wow, what a beautiful clubhouse and fountain out front.  Low and behold they had an aluminum patio cover out front of their clubhouse which is handling all of the harsh conditions thrown at it.
